MEET THE TOPUCU TEAM
As an entrepreneur, civic leader, and passionate student of leadership, Norm Mulder brings his lifetime of experience as the founder of TOPUCU. He is a Vietnam Veteran who served faithfully with the United Sates Army. Upon returning from his military service, Norm became a firefighter/paramedic with the City of Bay Village, OH. During this time he successfully launched and sold his first business, which led him into financial planning. Thirty-five years later he is an owner and National Sales Director with Primerica overseeing 91 offices and over 1,200 agents. He has traveled nationally representing the company and is one of 95 recipients awarded to their Wall of Fame. He serves on multiple nonprofit boards helping facilitate community and life transformation across the U.S. Norm & his wife Pat live in Northeast Ohio. They have 5 adult children and sixteen grandchildren.
Chief Operations Officer
Jerry brings to the TOPUCU team more than 35 years of Leadership and Executive Management experience. A Vietnam veteran who, after serving, graduated from The University of Akron majoring in Business and I/T management. He became a partner in a Business and I/T consulting firm in 1976 and help grow the firm from 20 to 400 consultants by 1989. His company was acquired by an international consulting firm in 1989 where Jerry held various management positions and became COO of the US operations growing the company to 30 branches, 4000 consultants and more than $800 million in sales by 2000. After retiring from corporate America in 2000 he used his experience to facilitate strategic planning for churches and non-profits in NE Ohio and has implemented operations improvement plans in many of these same organizations. He also established a residential real estate management company serving those unable to qualify for a traditional mortgage and making homeownership possible. For more than 40 years he has served on numerous church and non-profit boards. Jerry and his wife Mary of 46 years live in Northeast Ohio. They have two adult children and 6 grandchildren.
Director of Program Management
Rick joined TOPUCU in March of 2018. He comes to the team with over 30 years of management experience in the corporate world. While he served in the capacity of a senior leader in technology, his passion is people. This passion plays out in the areas of teaching and coaching. He has experience teaching high school and adult classes at church, facilitating corporate training classes and guest lecturing at Kent State University. He has served in a coaching and mentoring capacity in many of the same circles – coaching for a good number of years in youth sports as well as mentoring youth and adults in multiple settings (church, higher education and corporate).
Rick is married to his wife of 21 years Maria. They have three adult children, two grandsons, and a spoiled chocolate lab.
Chief Business Development Officer
Kim brings to the TOPUCU Team more than 30 years of experience in the Health and Wellness field. She earned her Bachelors in Nursing Degree and her Masters in Business, Healthcare Administration from the University of Phoenix. She started as a Critical Care Nurse and became a Nursing Director responsible for 14 departments at 5 different sites. Kim is currently the Founder/CEO of a Fitness Facility in Grafton, Vice President of the Grafton Chapter of Working Women Connection (WWC), and an Executive to the Founder/CEO of TOPUCU. Kim competed in the CrossFit Masters Games in 2013 and was ranked 18th in the World. She and her husband Scott of 24 years are the proud parents of 3 teenagers/adult children and 2 huge yellow labs.
Joining Norm and Pat Mulder in 2004, Michelle brings 25 years of Human Resource experience specializing in small to mid-size organizations providing guidance and leadership to senior managers in startup, growth, and stable organizations. Her broad experience includes employee relations, compensation and benefits, talent acquisition and management. Michelle earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications from Bowling Green State University.
Corrections Division Director
Norm Hills has 45 years experience in corrections working with both adult and juvenile populations. His experience and leadership in the industry has positioned him as a leading voice in corrections and inmate programs in the state of Ohio. He began his career as a social work intern at the Ohio State Reformatory where he later earned rank as the Deputy Warden. He was appointed the Chief Inspector of the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction. In 1986, he became the “activation” Warden for the Department, opening Pickaway Correctional Institution, Correctional Reception Center in 1987, Grafton Correctional Institution in 1988 and the Lorain Correctional Institution in 1989. In 1991 he was appointed as the North Regional Director, responsible for all aspects of operations for 16 of Ohio’s 31 prisons. Norm also served in Juvenile Corrections as Deputy Warden, Warden and Juvenile Parole Board Member. Norm is a native of Northern Ohio with a Bachelor of Arts Degree with majors in Sociology and Psychology from Ashland University.
VP, Corrections Division
John Dowdell recently retired the Director of the Gill Center for Business and Economic Education at Ashland University in Ashland, Ohio. John has over 35years of experience in correctional education and has been the editor of the Journal of Correctional Education for sixteen years. A member of the Correctional Education Association, John serves on the board of the organization and chairs the education and professional development committees of the board. He has published in the fields of correctional education and economic education and served on the steering committee for the RAND Corporation Second Chance Grant to evaluate education of juvenile and adult offenders. John is now the lead partner in Heartland Curriculum Consultants, LLC, and specializes in curriculum and development in the field of correctional education.
John chaired the Ohio Council on Economic Education Teacher Academy initiative. This project developed a comprehensive curriculum for the teaching of personal finance skills for Ohio high school teachers. He has also served on the Ohio Commission on Personal Finance, in cooperation with the State of Ohio Treasurer and Attorney General Offices. As the director of Ashland University correctional programs, John led the nation’s longest operating correctional higher education program. John earned a Bachelor of Science in Education degree and a Master of Education degree in curriculum and instruction at Ashland College. He completed doctoral coursework at the University of Akron.
Vice President Marketing
Mr. Randy Rohde brings more than 25 years of management experience to his role as Vice President at TOPUCU. Before joining TOPUCU, Mr. Rohde served in several Executive Leadership roles in education services, retail management, and digital marketing. He has launched and piloted several start-up organizations building multi-million dollar revenues along the way.
As VP of Marketing, Mr. Rohde is responsible for online content, website management and expanding the digital footprint for TOPUCU.
Mr. Rohde has an MA in English from Arizona State University and undergraduate degrees in English, History, Religion and Philosophy from the University of Sioux Falls. Randy lives with his wife and two children in Chagrin Falls, OH. He is an active member of the Chagrin Valley Jaycees, Chagrin Falls Dad’s Club, Scoutmaster Troop 241 and assists coaching CYO Cross Country.
